Following the Greek holiday and the excellent Swimming Across Lake Balaton, the time is approaching that there's only one month until the 12-hour championship. I am in a really good shape, my long trainings are improving, too. I think that if I race in a clever way, I will be able to run a very good result with a PB. I am expecting a lot of supporters: it should really be a home race for me.

Meanwhile it has become almost certain that in November I will line up for a 24-hour race in France. I am in search of sponsors in order to be able to run with the best possible conditions and reach my goal, a very nice result.

These are the results for now: I am training and training in all quantity and with good quality. This time, I should concentrate on this very important factor.

We are leaving for Greece on Mondayí. That won't be a trainign camp, however, my trainers will be packed in my luggage as well. Because of the holiday, I increased my training amount. In the last eleven days I ran 280 kms, tomorrow I am planning to run 20. That will have to be a good base for the autumn races. In Greece, I will run four or five times, the distance won't be more than 10K in each case. After that I will run two or three really tough weeks, that will be necessary before the 12H National Championship.

Because of Greece, I won't be able to update my webpage for a while. Have a nice summer, everyone!

There were some minor errors with the server so if you happened to come across with the frontpage of a sex-site when entering my webpage, it was due to this error. Thanks for God, the problem has been solved.

On Saturday, there will be a 6-hour-race in Szécsény. I am waiting for it very much. I am curious how it will be to start at five p.m. and run at night with torches en route. I don't have any speciel wishes or dreams about the race. I would be satisfied with a result around 70 kms, i.e. running at the pace of about 5 minutes per km.

By the way, I would like to express my respect for those ultrarunners who have completed the 212-km Ultrabalaton at the weekend. The weather was terrible, which made the distance even more difficult to complete. My friend, Sanyi also ran and IO am very proud of him and of course of being his friend. I wish next year we could run together and so I can (at last) experience how it feels when one is really tired.

I hope there will be a lot of spectators round the track on Saturday and we can have them take a look at the world of ultramarathon.

Unfortunately it turned out that due to some unexpected and outer reasons I won't be able to take part at the Ultrabalaton. I hope my team (relay) will do their best and can reach our goals. Come on Berkenye!!! Next year I will start in the individual race. That will be a tough 212 kms.

My next race will be organised two weeks from now. That will be tha "Around Lake Tisza" with its 70 kms. In order to test myself I decided to run a marathon as a training. I have to be honest now and tell you that I haven't slept more than seven hours for at least two or three weeks and I had to stay at my workplace until late every day. So, I am far from being relaxed. Even so I ran a perfect 3.38 around the village Rimóc. It was a trail run on two equal loops of 21 kms. The second loop was slower only by two minutes than the first one. There were two 'big hills', one with more than 100 metres of elevation in a km, the other was half of that. Obviously I had to climb these twice during the marathon.

All in all, I am in a pretty good shape and I hope that I will be the same in two weeks. Then, I will have to run 28 kms more than I did it today.

Numbers (varieties for a topic)

28. It seems to be much but I am so many years old today. A bit happy, a bit sad about the passing away of time but I can't do anything against it. What is sure is that there's no time to stop, I must keep on and be tough in the field of life and trainings as well.

Endless. That's the measure of the love and kindness I am given and you have sent me. Thank you! You, who read my homepage, send me messages and smses, think of me and send me your best wishes. Thank you for your birthday wishes, smses, messages. The best point of my day was when I entered the classroom and on the blackboard was written with block capitals the following: 'HAPPY BIRTHDAY, TEACHER!" Along with that a cake was drawn as well. These are the moments which justifies being a teacher, which make this profession wonderful. And this is why it is worth living.

1: There's only one day u8ntil the start of the 100K Hungarian National Championship. On Saturday, I have to run also bacause of these fellows, these little 'rascals' who wrote thzat on the blackboard. I would be honoured if they were boasting in the streets with me having finished at a very good result at the 100K Championship. Come on!

I screwed it, or the 6-hour National Championship 2009

I screwed it and not in a modest way. Let's start it at the beginning. I arrived only by myself because my girlfriend caught the flu and was unable to travel such a distance, so she had to stay at home. That was a bad omen, because her presence means a lot. She knows when to refresh, when to be angry, when to make me calm, when to give support, what to give me to eat and drink. She knows the signs of my fatigue. All in all, she gives me enormous motivation.

I woke up anxiously. Snow, very cold weather (only 2 C) was awaiting me. A bit cold for the first day of spring, isn't it?

Before the race I met a lot of friends and fellow-runners, we talked and cheered each other to be brave enough to enter the race. Time was rushing and I realised at once that I was loitering at the start-line. The final countdown: 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1, START! And we started to run. I ran my first kms at a relatively fast pace, but I felt that it could be good enough to keep to it until the end. My heart rate was a bit high but I wanted a good result so much that I couldn't stop and slow down. It was a deadly tactics but it is very easy to be clever by looking back from the future into the past.

I could keep that pace until 3.15. I ran a km in 4.40. I drank and ate when I had the occasion. And here came one of my big mistakes: I didn't eat and drink what I should have had to. I ate some sweet pralines. They were deliciuous but two kms later I realized how big mistake it was. I ate some oranges to solve my problem and it had its curing effect. I ran some loops but there was the nausea and it turned into a slight pain in my stomach now and then. Oranges always helped me in other races as well, along with apples, so I gulped it in great quantities. After running 3.40, I drank a glass of orange juice. That was the fatal mistake. From that time on, everything was terribly difficult and bad. My stomach didn't work well, which had never occured before in ultraraces. Good lesson: never, NEVER drink orange juice and eat sweet pralines while running.

After one and a half hours of gethsemane, I started to recover and got new energy and strenth but I had only threequarter of an hour back. I had been waiting for the end of the race, and it was a really good feeling to sit down. I ran 64.4 kms, which is 4 kms shorter than the result of the last year's race. It is 8 kms shorter with my minimal expectations.

There is no reason to get exesparated but I have to revaluate some things in my life:

1.       weekend long runs should be really long from now on

2.       better lifestíle. Although I am pushing for a really healthy lifestyle, I can't always succedd in it.

3.       better training plan with more reason

4.       I failed mentally now, and I can't allow myself that luxury in future events. So, I have to prepare mentally for the races. I mean prepare better. So far mental strength hasn't meant any troubles.

5.       during races I can drink and eat ONLY that stuff I have tested in trainings.

6.       much humbleness towards the distance. The great rule: it is not the distance that kills you but the pace.

My post-race state is excellent. No pains, though it is a bit difficult to ascend on stairs. That indicates that I have ran a bit at the weekend. There wasn't much time needed for my regeneration. This week, I won't train so much, I have to relax much. Next weekend, I will run 100K. It will also be a National Championship. I have to be there mentally, my legs will do their job, as usual. But if I am not there in soul as well, I will fail again. A good result would be my best birthday present...

Well, well... My task on Saturday is far to be easy. There are several runners on the entry list who are better than me, or at least who have at least once run a better result than my PB. I will have to run an extremely good time if I want to get a medal at the end. I remain at the least goal: to gain more than 72 kms, and the result will take the medal if I have a little luck. As the race is an IAU bronz-labelled race, my result will count in the world ranking. I am terribly anxious about Saturday.

That specific running after my little illness has come today, only today. Tomnorrow I am goping to be the owner of a brand-new Timex watch. That will be the birthday present for me from myself. I am very excited about the watch...

After some oittle illnesses like flu and sore throat I could realize the concrete effect on active sport on human body. Without any medicines I could recover from flu within one and a half day. Other people would suffer from it for at least four days with relatively high fever. I had temperature, so running was out of question for some days. I didn't have the courage to risk my health and performance in the future weeks. Before the 6-hour championship, no risk is acceptable.

The final countdown has begun: it is only ten days until the 6-hour National Championship. The participants provide a really tough race, many of them have already proved their abilities in the world beyond marathon. In spite of the long list of good runners, I am planning to get a medal at the end of the race. It would be really cool. I have some plans about how many kms I would like to run, my friends already know it. One thing is sure: the previous year's 69K wouldn't be enough for this race.

Tomorrow I am back on trail.

The third and final round of Szorospatak Winter Mountain Running Series was organised today. Some words about the weather conditions: the track led on a slippery asphalt and deep snow in forest trails. The 12.2 km had more than 300 m of elevation gain. During the first two rounds I collected a gold and a bronze medal in my age group, and today the moment of truth had come when it should turn out whether I could preserve my silver medal in the absolute count-up (where the two best results are added and all competitors are ranked).

We arrived with the usual team: some runners from SZAFT and some from Balassagyarmat. Before the race, I was chatting with Sanyi Szabó, my fellow-ultrarunner. We concluded that this year we will run a few damn good races beyond the marathon.

I decided to run according to a safe tactics: to run with the first quarter of the runners, because in the last two races I had commited an almost deadly fault by trying to run away from the others as early as possible and to struggle with the rest of the distance alone, paying attention to the time and not to other competitors. It was a succesful tactics uphills but the other runners proved to be better than me downhills. It is strange thing but true that I am slower than the others if I have to run down a slope. Unfortunately the last two kms of the track leads downhills... I decided and tried to avoid that failure  with the strategy that in the first loop (as the race is divided into two equal 6-km loops) I only stick to the others and in the beginning of the second loop where we had to run a 4-km uphill track, I run as fast as I can to gain so much lead that in the last two kms they could't catch me. It was a brilliant idea and worked in practice and though two runners reached the finish-line before me, I won the absolute gold medal, which exceeded my expectations by far.

The organisers of the race did excellent work, again. They have proved not for the first time that a club with relatively limited possibilities can organise a very good race.

I was going to run 54K today but due to the extreme fog I didn't have the courage to risk having a sunset in the foggy forest. No problem, because I reached my minimal target, i.e. to run to Szanda in the forest. I think, under better circumstances, I will run this trail in the future. All in all, it was a good run despite of the muddy soil. This result will count in Yours Truly 25.

Today I ran my first race this year. It was the second round of the Szorospatak Winter Mountain Running Series. It was a bit more slippery, because of the ice, than it had been last time but the organization of this race was excellent. There were some more better runners than last time and I was slower with 30 seconds on the same track. All in all, I came in sixth winning a bronze medal in my age group. The silver-medalist came in eight seconds before me. Bad luck. TCongratulations for him but on 22 February I would like to be the lucky guy.

In spite of the fact that running 12k is by far not my race, in these last two 12k-ers I won a gold and a bronze medal. On 22 February I will do my best to get the silver in the overall counting. (the best two results will count in overall results)

My next 'race' will be next Sunday. I will be one in the runners of Yours Truly 50. It is a very interesting 'race, in fact it is rather a funrun. You can register from every part of the world and you can run anywhere. The point is that you have to complete 25 or 50 kms and send your result to the organizer, a Finnish fellow. As Yours Truly will be held next Sunday and that's the weekend when our school organizes the teachers&parents' ball and I can't go back to Balatonalmádi, I will run here, in Rimóc. It will be a trail 50k, from Rimóc to Szanda, where my spouse's grandmother lives.

Length: 26,69 kms to Szanda and back - altogether 53,2K.

My next race will be this Sunday, in Szorospatak, the second round of the race I ran in December. After the sleety rain, this was my first training today, and I feel I am in a very good shape. There can't be any problems on Sunday.

Meanwhile I decided to enter the 6-hour Hungarian National Championship in Veszprém. After that race, there will be only two weeks for relaxing before the 100K Hungarian National Chempionship. I hope, I will have enough time for regeneration.

Evaluation of 2008

Interesting data about the year 2008:

I had 206 trainings altogether during 12 months. The best month according to the number of trainings was February with 21 trainings. The weakest was March, due to an injury, with 11 trainings.

This 206 trainings means 4053 kms, which is a bit less than the distance between Budapest-Moscow-Budapest. These kms were completed in 315,75 hours (18943 minutes), which is not less than 13,15 days, i.e. I spent almost two weeks with running last year. A training lasted for 1,53 hours on the average, with 4:40 minutes/km of average speed. I ran 11,104 km a day, and 19,67 per training.

There were 14 weeks when I ran more than 100 kms. The best week was the third week of January with 131,5 kms.

These data look like this from another point of view: I burnt 235.990 calories, which means:

  • 424 bars of chocolate

  • 3933 pieces of Rafaello

  • 476 packs of crisps

  • 1873 tankards of beer

  • 575 portion of pork stew with pasta

  • 2226 pieces of croissant

  • 465 Big Macs

In 2008, I won 2 cups and five medals. I am most proud of the Hungarian National Championship bronze medal in Csákvár (in my age group). The 110 kms would mean the 54th position in the World Ranking if this race had been labelled as an IAU-competition.

The only question is what the future will bring. I hope, better results will come. I would like to break all my records, including 6H, 12H and 100K. I would like to ran 4500 kms altogether this year. And, hopefully, one of my dreams will come true on 23 October, in Budapest, somewhere at the Heroes' Square...

The first round of the IV. Szorospatak Winter Mountain Running Race was organized today. I chose the longest distance, which was 12,2 km. For a long time, I ran in the leading position but because of the slippery downhill part of the race I didn't have the courage to risk my leg and took back my pace a bit. I finished at the third position of all the competitors and won a gold medal in my age group (19-35) The race was organized excellently, though the weather could have been better. The second round of the race will be held on 18 January, the third part on 22 February. I hope that I can win such a nice medal at the next race.

I have just read the great news: the Hungarian National Championship of 2009 will be organised in my hometown, Balatonalmádi. If I didn't have pride and willingness to prove while running, this race will certainly bring these feelings. I had a wonderful feeling in Veszprém,during the 6-hour race (Veszprém was the city where I attended university and this town is situated only 15 km from Balatonalmádi). What will I feel in Balatonalmádi during that 12 hours? I am looking forward to this race!

The 6-hour Hungarian National Championship will unfortunately be organised only one week prior the 100K Hungarian National Championship. Thus, I have to make a difficult decision. Now I am tending to choose the 100K-race, though the 6-hour race will be held in Veszprém...

The third news: after a little injury I started training so maybe the hope of reaching 4000 km before New Year's Eve is not only a dream. Although the weather is cold and foggy,I enjoyed today's and yesterday's running as well. I am back in the daily routines of training!

St Nicholaus Day is coming and we had a funrun on this event in Szécsény. It was organised by the SZAFT, the amateur runners' organisation of the town. Unfortunately, the weather was awful but more than 50 children joined the 'nursery-run'. The adults were not so active and that's one of the reasons I could win the race. I got a gold medal and a chocolate for my result.

It is a great news that hopefully I will be able to have two supporters. In some days you can read about them in details if things go well.

I ran to Hollókő on St Andrew's Day. That was 17 km in a relatively big slush. With this running, I completed 299 km in November. I am absolutely satisfied with this, because I think, I should run more in the warmer months. Until then a weekly 70-80 km are enough and satisfiing. We will see how many kms Santa Claus brings me this year.

I didn't run too much last week and completed zero kms this week. I am having a little rest. Furthermore I won't run at the planned race. The reason is very simple: this kind of weather and the slippery conditions don't favour me. I would be very sad if I finished this year with a broken limb. This year I will only run for fun and next year should bring the really great challenges. These will be so great that perhaps I don't believe them either. Of course, it is not true: I plan in order to complete.

We had wonderful weather today, so I decided to insert a long-run into my training schedule. It was 28,5 km with a relatively fast pace. I'm in a really good shape and I think I have good stamina for the last race.

Some interesting facts about this year: I have run 3668 km this year. This distance took almost 287 hours which means that I have spent more than eleven days with running this year.

The English version of the webpage has been created. Probably, I did a bit of hasty work with the translation, so there might be mistakes. I will try to eliminate them within a short time.

This week, again, brought more than 100Ks to my running diary. I need only 400 kms to reach the dream target 4000 kms. I think that shouldn't mean any trouble for me.

There will be a guestbook on my page in the future. Unfortunately, the original didn't work so I have to create a new one.

The most important news: my webpage has started to work. It was made upon a sudden idea. It has its shortages but I hope it will improve, for which I need the opinion of the visitors. I receive every criticism with pleasure so don't hesitate to e-mail me. In a short time you will be able to see a gallery as well. Until that you have to be pleased with some photos here and there at the site.

My next race will be, hopefully, the Szavoyai Commemorative Race on the last Saturday of November in Szigethalom (Hungary). This is the final running of the Hungarian Ultra Trail Cup. At the present I am at about the 9-10th place in the ranking. I hope to finish among the top 10 runners. This will be my last race this year. It would be good to finish this wonderful year with a nice result. Go ahead!
